Fair Trade

JCU Dining demonstrates environmental responsibility with a dining program that promotes the preservation of the earth's resources and promotes fair trade and organic initiatives.

The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. group at John Carroll is working hard to raise awareness and increase access to fair trade and sweat free goods on campus. In cooperation with this JCU Dining Services offers Fair Trade Coffee at all locations and Java City Barista Cafe in the Underground is devoted to working with coffee producers who promote a sustainable social, ecological, and economic model for the production and trade of coffee, benefitting the farmers, their families, their communities, and the natural environment. Fair trade certified coffee is coffee that is purchased from farmers who receive a fair and just wage for their coffee beans, are given benefits such as education for their children, and produce the coffee in safe and eco-friendly ways. 

Operations in Schott Dining Hall are also committed to working with and promoting programs of local sustainable agriculture, natural and organic food sourcing, zero trans fat oil initiative, minority-owned suppliers, and environmentally conscious packaging.
